Step up to the spot and pick your corner. A goalkeeper patrols the line while your aim marker sweeps across the mouth of the goal — shoot to send the ball where the marker points, and time it so the keeper can't get across. Every goal makes the keeper a little quicker; three saves and it's full time. Shoot with Space, the Shoot button, or a tap on the pitch. Your best haul of goals is saved on this device.

How to play Soccer
Quick start
- Press Start. A marker sweeps left and right along the goal line.
- The goalkeeper patrols the goal at the same time, moving on his own.
- Shoot when the marker is somewhere the keeper is not.
- Three saves and the game is over. Every goal you score is your score.
How it works
Controls
- Mouse or trackpad
- Click anywhere on the pitch to shoot.
- Touch
- Tap the pitch, or the Shoot button beneath it.
- Keyboard
- Space, the up arrow, or W shoots. There is nothing to aim manually — the marker sweeps on its own and the shot goes wherever it is when you fire.
Tips
- You are not aiming, you are timing. The marker sweeps at a fixed pace and the shot lands wherever it happens to be when you press.
- The keeper starts at 2.6 pixels a frame and gains seven per cent per goal, but it is capped at 7.5, so he can never blur across the goal faster than you can read him. The marker ramps four per cent a goal, capped at 9.
- The ball takes 22 frames to reach the goal, and the keeper keeps moving during the flight. Shoot at where he will be, not where he is.
- A save costs one of three misses; a goal costs nothing. There is no penalty for waiting for a better sweep.
Frequently asked questions
How do I aim?
You do not aim directly. A marker sweeps back and forth along the goal, and your shot goes wherever it is at the moment you fire. The skill is timing.
How many chances do I get?
Three saves. Each save the keeper makes costs you one, and the game ends at the third. Goals cost nothing.
Does the goalkeeper get faster?
Yes. He gains seven per cent of his speed for every goal you score, but that speed is capped at 7.5 pixels per frame, so he can never move faster than you can react to.
Why is the keeper capped?
Without a cap his speed compounds without limit. Past about forty goals he would cross a third of the goal between two frames, and whether your shot went in would stop being a decision and become a coin toss.
Does the keeper keep moving after I shoot?
Yes. The ball takes 22 frames to reach the goal and the keeper moves for all of them, so you have to shoot at where he is going.
Is there any luck involved?
No. The keeper's patrol is a steady bounce between the posts and the marker sweeps at a fixed rate. Both are fully predictable if you watch them.
What is my score?
The number of goals you scored before the third save. Your highest total is saved.
Can I play with just a keyboard?
Yes. Space, the up arrow, or W shoots. Nothing else is needed.
