A lone core sits at the centre of the screen while energy orbs streak in from every direction. A glowing shield arc orbits the core — rotate it left and right to catch each orb before it lands, and every block adds to your score. When you're swamped, fire a Pulse to sweep a whole ring clear (it needs a moment to recharge). Every ten blocks the swarm speeds up. Let an orb slip through and the core loses one of three lives. Rotate with the left and right arrow keys and pulse with Space or the button. Your best score is saved on this device.

How to play Star Defense
Quick start
- Press Start. Orbs begin closing on the core from every direction.
- Rotate the glowing shield around the core with the left and right arrows.
- Put the shield in front of an orb before it reaches the core to block it.
- When you are surrounded, fire the Pulse to clear a whole ring at once.
How it works
Controls
- Mouse or trackpad
- There are no mouse controls. Use the keyboard, or the on-screen pad beneath the core.
- Touch
- Hold the left and right arrows on the on-screen pad to spin the shield, and tap Pulse to clear a ring.
- Keyboard
- Left and right arrows, or A and D, rotate the shield. Space fires the Pulse.
Tips
- The shield covers roughly 69 degrees, a little under a fifth of the circle. You cannot cover two opposite orbs, so pick one and accept the other will need the Pulse.
- A blocked orb is worth 10 points. A Pulse kill is only worth 5, so the Pulse is a rescue tool, not a scoring tool.
- The Pulse takes 120 frames to recharge — about two seconds. Firing it the moment you feel crowded usually means it is gone when you actually need it.
- Every ten blocks advances a wave, and each wave shortens the gap between spawns. Rotating in one direction constantly is what kills you; short, deliberate corrections keep you alive.
Frequently asked questions
How much of the circle does my shield cover?
About 69 degrees, a little under a fifth of the way around. You cannot cover two opposite sides at once.
What is an orb worth?
Blocking one with the shield is 10 points. Destroying one with the Pulse is 5, because the Pulse takes no aim.
How often can I use the Pulse?
It recharges over 120 frames, roughly two seconds. The readout beside the core tells you when it is ready.
When should I use the Pulse?
When you are about to be hit from a side your shield cannot reach in time. It is a rescue, not a way to farm points.
What makes a wave advance?
Every ten orbs you block. Each new wave shortens the gap between spawns, so the pressure rises steadily.
How many lives do I have?
Three. You lose one each time an orb reaches the core, and the run ends when the third is gone.
Does an orb behind the core still hit me?
Yes. The shield only protects the arc it is currently covering, so an orb arriving anywhere else reaches the core.
Can I play with a keyboard only?
Yes. Left and right arrows or A and D rotate the shield, and Space fires the Pulse.
